Before You Sign
Read the contract like you're looking for a hidden fee. Look for payment schedules — never pay more than a third upfront, and never pay the full balance until the job is done and you're satisfied. Get the start date and estimated completion date in writing. Also get a clear statement on who cleans up each day and who hauls away debris. If they won't put it in writing, they won't do it.
