Our ranking algorithm is transparent, deterministic, and non-negotiable. No business can pay to change its base star rating or review count.
Every business on RatingsNearMe is assigned a rank score between 0 and 1. This score determines its position in search results for any city and category. The score is computed from five weighted signals:
The business's average rating from verified customer reviews. Calculated using a Bayesian average that accounts for review volume — a business with 4.8 stars from 500 reviews ranks above one with 4.9 stars from 3 reviews.
Total number of verified customer reviews. More reviews = more trustworthy signal. This rewards businesses that serve many customers consistently.
Natural language analysis of review text. We look for quality signals: mentions of professionalism, timeliness, value, and follow-through. Negative sentiment about pricing transparency, no-shows, or poor workmanship reduces this score.
Whether the listing has a phone number, website, address, and category correctly set. Incomplete profiles signal lower accountability.
Indicators that the business is currently active — recent review activity, response patterns, and listing freshness.
Business listing data — names, addresses, phone numbers, websites, ratings, and review counts — is sourced from publicly available Google Business Profile data. This data is updated regularly.
In addition to Google data, RatingsNearMe accepts community-submitted reviews directly on our platform. These are labeled "Community" to distinguish them from imported Google ratings.
Businesses can pay for Featured, Premium, or Exclusive placement on RatingsNearMe. Paid placement provides:
Paid placement never alters a business's star rating or review count. A Featured business with 3.2 stars will not outrank a free listing with 4.9 stars in organic results.
All imported ratings originate from Google's verified review system. Community reviews submitted on RatingsNearMe are subject to our review policy — we remove reviews that appear fraudulent, retaliatory, or in violation of our terms. Businesses may flag reviews for investigation via their Business Dashboard.
